Gene & Amber in Phoenix
We
took a mini vacation out to Phoenix Arizona to attend the Ceramarama
at Arizona State University. At Ceramarama, we met up with Michael
McCullough and Patti Warashina
(Patti was giving a feature presentation). On our way out to Phoenix,
we stopped in Yuma to hang out with Ambers "snow birding"
grandparents. They had been taking their mobile home down every year
to hang out in the sun.

Here I am, just me and the cactus (left). Ever since moving down to
San Diego, I have been big in to the succulent family of plants (basically
cactus). Maybe I'll put up a succulent section on my website???
I'm on my way up Squaw Peak mountain in the heart of Phoenix. Squaw
Peak is 2600ft high and a doosy to climb of you don't have some good
leg strength. There are jagged steps the whole way up and they are
big and uneven. I'd say the incline is almost 45 degrees all the way
up. It's a lot of fun to get to the top.
Amber on the way up. I think she's giving her "tough" pose.
She was a little tired, but she had been working out a lot which helped
her make it to the top.

A view from the top of Squaw Peak. It's really hard to judge how high
we are, but it's always worth the hike. When I lived in Phoenix, I
used to hike up a few times a month.

Amber standing next to a Saguaro cactus. The Saguaro is obviouly one
of the largest cactus in the world. Amber is almost 6 feet tall and
this thing dwarfs her.Amber was being creative in her photography
and snapped this nice picture of a Saguaro cactus with the sun behind
it. Cool.

We we also to time our trip just right for the Mariners / San Diego
spring training camp.
