Gene & Amber in Cancun

Hola. We booked our trip to Cancun and found out the next day that hurricane Emily was moving directly towards our destination. Emily was upgraded to a Category 5, but slowed down to a Category 3 when it went through Cancun. We were worried that our trip might get screwed up, but apparently it only blew a few cabana tops off. Whew.

We stayed at a five star resort called Riu Palace Las Americas which was all inclusive. There were 2 large pool areas...a quite pool, and a pool with adult / fun activites, included a swim up bar with all the free Tequila shots and margaritas you could drink. We had a suite over looking the ocean with 180 degree panoramic views (see gallery below). Our room was equiped with free liquor, bottled water, soda, etc... Pretty much anything you wanted at any time.

We took a mini boat and snorkeling tour through the mangroves of Cancun. It was a blast. Each couple got their own boat and we followed each other out to a great snorkeling spot. We all jumped off our boats and followed the snorkel guide through a reef with crystal clear water.

We're tubing down a natural river in the Xel-ha resort. There were huge iguanas all over this place. We were having a few drinks at one of the cabana's and counted 7 big iguanas. Cool.

We went to an eco park that was on the ocean called Xcaret. This place had a lot of fun things to do. We swam through the underground caverns, snorkeled in the 2nd largest reef in the world, watched people swimming with dolphins... At the end of the day, they put on a nice 2 hour show in the Grand Tlachco. The show guides you through several episodes of Mexican history.

We also went to Xel-ha which which is a water theme park. This is where we took the lazy river (pictured above). From Xel-ha, we went to Tulum and toured the Mayan ruins. The ruins were on cliffs over looking the ocean. Beautiful place.
